I hate to say it, but I am very disappointed in how most of the class is not taking ICT class seriously. Here is a summary of the class grades to date:
A - 2
B - 1
D - 1
F - 13
That is miserable. I have emailed each of you your grade report as of today in ICT class. You need to get your act together and finish up the posts you are missing or complete the ones you never finished. All late work must be emailed to me by the end of the day Friday. After that I will not accept any late work. If you have questions, see me after class or at lunch. You can also email me if you have questions or something to say about your grades.
Today we will
be focusing on citing information that we "borrow" from other websites properly.
This is important because if you just take it and don't say where it
came from it is
STEALING! When you steal someone's work - whether it is an image, an entire paper, a paragraph, or even a phrase - it is called
plagiarism.
It will not be tolerated. If you are caught plagiarizing work at the
university level they kick you out of the university. It is a very
serious matter. For the next few weeks we will be learning how to cite
the original source of many different materials, which means to give
credit to the author or company that you got the material from.
As always, if you do not
finish during ICT time you need to find time at home or during breaks at
school to complete the assignment.
Citing another website
When you copy and paste information into your blog, it is very
important to give credit to the person who wrote the information. Even if you are not copying and pasting, if you are writing most of the same ideas you need to give them credit. There is a very specific way that we do this. Please
follow these directions carefully.
- Be sure you use the URL of the original page of the information.
- Be sure you get the information from a reliable source.
- After you have inserted the information or ideas in your blog, you should cite the source. This is how you cite a website:
- Author's Surname, First name or INITIALS., Year. Title of website (use italics). Type of media. Place of publication (if given), Publisher (if ascertainable). Available from: URL [Accessed Date].
- If there is no title of the image or video, briefly describe the
image or video and place quotation marks around the title so we know you
are just guessing at the title.
- For example:
- Suzuki, Lea. 2005. Election Results are in. Website. San Francisco, SFGate. Available from: http://www.sfgate.com [Accessed 14 Nov. 2009].
- Atkinson, T., 2002. Social Europe and social science. Website. Swindon,
Economic & Social Research Council. Available from:

The goals of your blog post are the same as they have been plus one new one:
- Writing 200+ words
- Inserting images into posts -At least 1 image
- Cite the source of the image properly
- Formatting font appearance
- Formatting image appearance
- Be sure to properly cite any website that you took information from
