Assigned: 22 Nov. 2011
Due: 23 Nov. 2011
Points: 20 points = 10 points for the post, 10 points for citing all images correctly
Chao Cac Ban!
The blogs are coming along quite nicely (for most of you). Today we will be focusing on citing images we "borrow" from other websites properly. This is important because if you just take it and don't say where it came from it is STEALING! When you steal someone's work - whether it is an image, an entire paper, a paragraph, or even a phrase - it is called plagiarism. It will not be tolerated. If you are caught plagiarizing work at the university level they kick you out of the university. It is a very serious matter. For the next few weeks we will be learning how to cite the original source of many different materials, which means to give credit to the author or company that you got the material from.
As always, if you do not finish during ICT time you need to find time at home or during breaks at school to complete the assignment.
Citing an Online Image or Video File
When you copy and paste an image or file into your blog, it is very important to give credit to the person who took the picture, made the image or video. There is a very specific way that we do this. Please follow these directions carefully.
Another Post
The goals of your blog post are the same as they have been plus one new one:
You should remember how to do a blog post without me writing directions
here. If you need the directions look at an earlier post to find them.
Remember to cite all the images in your post (and you must have at least three images) and email me the link to your latest blog post before the end of the day 23 Nov. 2011. Again, my email address is kristin.romberg@saigonsouth.sis.edu.vn but I should be in your address book by now. No excuses for late or incomplete work!
Good luck!

Citing an Online Image or Video File
When you copy and paste an image or file into your blog, it is very important to give credit to the person who took the picture, made the image or video. There is a very specific way that we do this. Please follow these directions carefully.
- Be sure you use the URL of the original page of the image. Do not use the URL of the enlarged image by itself. You need to show where it came from.
- Be sure you get the image or video from a reliable source. If it is from a blog be sure the author of the blog didn't steal the image from someone else. Do a quick google image search to see if the same image comes up in more than one place then choose the site that includes the creator's name along with the image. If none of the sites list the creator or use the copyright symbol the site that is most well known.
- After you have inserted the image in your blog, you should cite the source. This is how you cite an image or video found online:
- Author's /Editor's Surname, First name or INITIALS., Year. Title (use italics). Type of media. Place of publication (if given), Publisher (if ascertainable). Available from: URL [Accessed Date].
- If there is no title of the image or video, briefly describe the image or video and place quotation marks around the title so we know you are just guessing at the title.
- For example:
- Suzuki, Lea. 2005. "Mick Jaggar." Photo. San Francisco, SFGate. Available from: http://www.sfgate.com [14 Nov. 2005].
- Atkinson, T., 2002. Social Europe and social science. Book Cover. Swindon, Economic & Social Research Council. Available from: http://www.esrc.ac.uk/ESRCInfoCentre/Images/2002AnnualLecture_tcm6-5500.pdf [Accessed 15 August 2011].
